Then, off to the KY Horse Park in Lexington. Enjoy a horse drawn trolley ride, a horse show, and the horse museum. Then, on to the “Halls on the River” restaurant that serves famous seafood, as well as home country cookin’ such as the “KY Hot Brown!!! The next day we will be traveling to Shaker Village to see how Shakers used to live without electricity. Enjoy lunch at the Trustee’s Table, where you can experience food fresh off the farm!
Following will be a “Dixie Belle Riverboat” ride that runs through the great Cumberland River of KY. Enjoy a relaxing ride aboard the Dixie Belle 114 passenger riverboat. Cruise the scenic Kentucky River palisades, along a stretch of river with high limestone cliffs and untouched natural beauty. One-hour narrated cruises describe the river’s diverse ecosystem and the historical importance of the river to the Shakers. During the tour, the Dixie Belle ventures through the oldest exposed rock in Kentucky, and passes under High Bridge, an engineering marvel built in 1877.
Next, onto Cumberland Falls State Resort Park to see the ‘NIAGARA OF THE SOUTH”, the 125 foot wide curtain of water that plunges 7 stories into a boulder-strewn gorge, which is dramatic day or night. It’s only during a few nights each month when there’s a full moon, that you can see the “moonbow”, a phenomenon not found anywhere else in the western hemisphere. We will be there at this time! For those who choose to stay up late, you may get to see this amazing sight!
You will be staying & eating at Dupont Lodge in Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, where you can relax on the beautiful, large observation deck overlooking the Cumberland River. The solid hemlock beams and knotty pine paneling compliment the massive stone fireplaces in historic Dupont Lodge, one of the most beautiful state park lodges.
Next, we will travel aboard the “Big South Fork Scenic Railway.” This will be a breath-taking scenic ride through the Daniel Boone National Forest with a stop for lunch at the Blue Herron coal mining camp. Hear stories from the actual voices of what it was like back then! Afterwards, you can tour the McCreary County
Museum. Finally, we will take a hands on tour of the Old KY Chocolates factory in Lexington, KY. You will see up close how chocolates are made and can even eat one off of the conveyer belt like Lucille Ball!!!!
Come and join us to see awesome, once in a lifetime sights, and KY surprises!!!
