Depart Lafayette at 7:00AM, Lebanon at 7:30AM and Indianapolis at 8:00AM.
We begin our adventure with a stop at Zanesville Pottery. Watch a demonstration in the art of pottery making by one of their knowledgeable potters. This evening we take a ride on THE VALLEY GEM, an authentic sternwheeler, for a scenic cruise into the Muskingum Valley. Enjoy a prime rib dinner and the beautiful views!
The next day we head toward Elkins, WV making a stop at Appalachian Glass to see a live glass blowing demonstration.
Enjoy some free time to explore downtown Elkins, one of the 100 Best Art Towns in America. You may choose to visit the West Virginia Railroad Museum (entrance fee not included). Dinner is included at the historic Graceland Inn and then it’s on the see the Greatest Show on Rails, a 90 minutes live production. Take an unforgettable musical journey “by rail” across the country jam-packed with the finest entertainment you’ll find anywhere!
Our third day begins at the NATIONAL RADIO ASTRONOMY OBSERVATORY located in Green Bank, West Virginia. Scientists from all over the world come here to study planets, comets, quasars and galaxies. See the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope, the world’s largest fully steerable radio telescope, as we take a fascinating tour of this facility. Lunch is included at the Starlight Café.
Next, we take a ride on the CASS SCENIC RAILROAD. We are transported back in time to relive the era of steam-driven locomotives. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the vast wilderness as we travel to Whittaker Station, an authentic logging camp recreated by the volunteers of the Mountain State Railroad & Logging Historical Association. Enjoy some free time in Cass to explore the shops and museum before we return to Elkins. Enjoy our final evening at the Gandy Dancer Dinner Theatre for a high energy variety of family-friendly music and comedy. From classic to contemporary country, bluegrass to rock and roll, there’s something for everyone at the Gandy Dancer.
