This tour was first offered in 1989 and is back by popular demand! Unlike many Alaska tours, this one is specially designed to experience the vast pristine wilderness of Alaska’s great interior.
You will travel by motorcoach to Chicago and board Alaska Airlines for your nonstop flight to Seattle, Washington. Enjoy a brief tour of Seattle, including the world famous Space Needle.
Next day fly to Anchorage. Travel over 135 miles in spectacular Prince William Sound. A catamaran will take you to within several hundred feet of towering walls of ice, as you view over 26 active glaciers! You can hear, as well as see, the large pieces of ice break and calve into the sea! Board the Alaskan Railroad for a seven hour journey North through Alaska’s great interior. Forest, tundra, lakes and snowcapped mountains form a panorama that simply must be seen to be appreciated. Your two story rail car is specially designed with huge viewing windows to offer unparalleled, spectacular viewing. Enjoy a wildlife tour in awesome Denali National Park. A local guide will narrate as you view ruggedly beautiful scenery. It may be possible to see fox, marmot, beaver, caribou, Dall Sheep, bear and moose. Watch for spectacular Mt. Denali, North America’s highest peak.
Board the Alaskan Railroad for our trip further North to Fairbanks. This portion of the tour, mother nature cooperating, will include beautiful Alaskan fall foliage as millions of yellow birch trees line both sides of the track. In Fairbanks, see the World’s Northernmost golf course, Eskimo and Indian exhibits and the World’s longest pipeline.
Enjoy a 20 mile narrated paddlewheel boat cruise. Witness the blending of rivers as the clear water Chena River flows into the glacier fed Tanana River. See Iditarod sled dogs in action. Enjoy an elegant dinner at the famous Fairbanks Pump house Restaurant. Antiques and memorabilia of the gold rush era decorate the interior. Return flight to Chicago and motorcoach to Lafayette.
