Thank the Dutch dynasty for bringing this sweet treat to America. Rings, holes, filled or fritters, who can say no to these delicious treats? The original Donut Day began in 1938 by the Salvation Army to celebrate Donut Dollies, the ladies who served our serviceman these sweet pastries in France during World War I.
We begin our day of celebration with donuts from Lafayette’s own Mary Lou Donuts, a local fixture for over 50 years! After our morning sugary fix we will walk it off with a tour of the Indianapolis Indian’s Victory Field. Get a close up look at the field and batting cages, complete with the batting donut! Who knew! We will have lunch at a favorite Plainfield restaurant who also celebrates Donut Day, what are the odds and how lucky are we? Next up, Indiana Law Enforcement Training Academy, where a long time tactical driving expert will demonstrate some maneuvers and offer some safety tips to avoid doing donuts! Our day ends as it started with yet another sweet treat from another renowned Indiana bakery, Titus Bakery of Lebanon home of the Titus Pershing. The owner will graciously host us as we put our own final touches on National Donut Day!
