We kick off our two day escape with a visit to “Gem City”! Dayton, Ohio is home of the airplane, automobile self-starter, the cash register, the NFL’s inaugural game, the first internationally-acclaimed African American poet and so much more. Carillon Historical Park houses 3 million artifacts and 30 historic structures from the 1905 Wright Flyer III to Carillon Brewing Company, the nation’s only production brewery in a museum!

As we inch towards Irish Fest we will make a short detour for auto lovers. We will visit the private auto collection of Wagner-Hagens. The collection consists of Edsels, Packards, Continentals and a host of memorabilia. There is one auto with a Lafayette, Indiana connection!

Get ready for Irish with attitude. The Dublin, Ohio Irish Fest is the second largest Irish festival on the planet! Performances by Irish dancers, Celtic canines, shop for imported and handmade goods plus endless amounts of Irish food and drink. Maybe even learn an Irish jig! The festival is yours to enjoy.

We will overnight just outside of Dayton, Ohio. On our return home we will stop in Dayton, Ohio for a visit to the National Museum of the US Air Force. We will spend late morning through lunch at the museum, where you will see more than 100 years of aviation history and more than 360 aerospace vehicles and missiles amid 17 acres of indoor exhibit space, from the beginnings of military flight to today’s war on terrorism.

Walking on this trip is self paced. The Dublin Irish Fest takes place in Coffman Park so there is a mix of sidewalks and grassy areas.
