Experience the glory days of the country’s first transcontinental highway, referred to by Will Rogers as the “Mother Road” on this day trip to Pontiac, Illinois. Pontiac’s Museum Complex encompasses multiple eras, beginning with The Music of the Civil War, with original sheet music from the Civil War continuing to our visit to the Livingston County War Museum. Tours lead by veterans at the museum cover from WW1 to Afghanistan. A visit to Life in the 1940’s exhibit is included. 4 rooms decked out in original 1940’s décor with original newspapers displaying the WWII news of the day.

Next, prepare for the Bob Waldmire Experience as you enter the 1960’s. See the Hippie RV Road Yacht and the VW bus of Bob Waldmire, the Johnny Appleseed of Route 66. You will trace the artist of Route 66’s spiritual development as well as that of his craft. Visit Old City Hall Shoppes and take a photo with the “World’s Largest Route 66 Mural”. The Pontiac Oakland Automobile Museum is also included. Here you see one of the world’s greatest collections of Pontiac and Oakland automobiles and memorabilia. A trolley ride will take you to Murals on Main Street and the Dongbais International Art School.

We will enjoy lunch at one of the most unusual restaurants and weather permitting allow time to take a stroll across one of Pontiac’s swinging bridges! Grab the love beads, your best set of shades and get your kicks on Route 66.
